------------------------------------------------------------------

Christmas

Christmas is a wonderful time of year filled with decorations, cookies, Christmas lights and a huge Christmas tree which is a part of Christmas season. It symbolizes the expressions of joy and happiness. Christmas tree plays an essential role in the culture of every Christians. The children usually love Christmas tree because it is decorated and many gifts are placed around the tree. As the saying goes that Christmas is not about receiving but it is all about giving joyfully. The children of St. Damien of Molokai Church were so excited to participate in the Christmas tree celebration held on 20th of December 2020. December is the favorite month for the children as they would receive a lot of gifts. This year the Parish Education Scholarship team decided to give school bags for all the parish children. We had a six foot tall Christmas tree that was placed at the right side of the altar with lot of decorations and gifts around.

The program started after the second mass in the St. Mary’s Chapel with few carol songs by the choir group. The Priest in-charge Rev. Fr. Umakant Porichha delivered a short Christmas message for all the children. And Mr. Thomas Abraham from Parish Education Scholarship team explained to the parishioners and the children about the Parish Education Scholarship program which had been started by the parish. He also gave a short Christmas message for our parish children.

Then the Christmas gifts were distributed for the children. Children who have not started their school received a toy box each. And the children who have started their school till twelfth standard received their school bags. The children and youth who had participated in the competitions conducted during the pandemic and the Catechism children who participated in the quiz competition also received their gifts.

Many families gathered together in the church premises with their children amidst the covid-19 pandemic. We made sure that all the protocols given by the government as well as the Archdiocese of Calcutta was strictly followed during the distribution of the Gifts and until they left the church premises. The program came to an end with few more carol songs.
